Unfortunately the pitches at Pencoed are all unplayable for this weekend. Obviously you will all be disappointed about not driving to Bridgend tomorrow morning!

We have arranged some training for the boys in the castle field on Sunday instead so they can run off some of their christmas excitement! Underhill will likely be waterlogged!

Game v Pencoed - Sun

'twas the weekend before Christmas
Mums, don't get annoyed
We've a festive game of rugby
In a place called Pencoed

You may want to buy gifts
Take your boys with you shopping
Numbers for the game this weekend
Might be dropping

Fear not for reprisals
It's Christmas you see
If your family has plans for your boys
Let them be

The shout out on Teamer
To the whole squad did go
So if you cant make it
Just please reply NO

I am sure for Pencoed
We'll raise a fine squad of boys
That would rather play rugby
Than go shop for toys

In other words, the whole squad has been invited on teamer for our final game before Christmas
If you cant make it, please reply NO - and if you can please reply YES

Not rocket science, I know, but sometimes I wonder...

Training also on Friday at Bish Gym 4.30pm

MORE FUNDRAISING...

We have managed to arrange a Crusaders fund raising night by selling tickets for the ‘world famous’ Mal Pope play “The Cappuccino Girls” currently running at The South Wales Evening Post Theatre, High Street, Swansea.  Mal has agreed to allocate us 80 tickets out of the 120 capacity for the night of Wednesday 7th Dec, at £12 per ticket and give back to the Crusaders £6 of each ticket sale.  Therefore if we sell all 80 tickets we can raise £480.

We are also hoping to run a raffle on the night so if any of you would like to donate prizes for the raffle it would be much appreciated.

It is important that we sell all 80 tickets and therefore ask you all to assist by selling tickets to family, friends & colleagues.

IF WE CAN SELL JUST 3 TICKETS EACH WE WILL RAISE £500 FOR THE CRUSADERS! GET SELLING!!!!

TESCO BAG PACK

The Crusaders have secured a coveted bag packing slot at the Tesco Megastore in Fforestfach.

The boys have the use of the checkouts there to pack bags and raise some money from 11am to 4pm on
SUNDAY 27th NOVEMBER

These bag-packing events can raise considerable sums for the groups taking part, and we should really make the most of this opportunity for the boys to engage with the community as a group and raise some money while they are doing it.

Ideally, the whole squad will be there packing away from 11 til 4. Depending on numbers we will try and organise a rota so everyone gets some breaks and the times are allocated out fairly. In order to do this as best we can, could you please email mumblescrusaders@gmail.com what times your child is available for the day.

Winter Training

In order to save the boys from Mike Morgan's Winter training bootcamp (pictured here) we have secured the use of Bishopston Sports Hall and Ashleigh Road Astroturf for the colder months of the year. Starting Friday November 4th. Details will go out via Teamer.
We will be sharing the facilities with the u10's - training one week at Bish followed by a week on the Atsro.
This will run for 12 weeks and get us through the worst of the winter weather.
In order to help pay for the winter training at both these venues we are looking for a £20 contribution from each player. Please see me at training or the game next week for any more info or to hand over your hard earned cash.

Thanks

Mouthguards: boil and bite v fitted v no gum shield

In response to people asking me about what sort of gum shield they should get, here is a leaflet from Opro:
http://www.opro.com/downloads/mgbook.pdf

Note that gum shields prevent more than losing your teeth. They reduce the potential of cuts in the mouth and concussion. Boxers don't wear a gum shield to protect their teeth.

CRUSADERS' TOUR 2012

West Coast International Rugby Festival 2011/2012

May Day Bank Holiday
Arrive 4th May | Depart 7th May 2012
Tournament Day’s 5th May | 6th May 2012
Age Groups Male | U7 through to U16

Plans are taking shape for our proposed rugby tour this year.

In 2012 the West Coast International Mini and Junior Rugby Festival will take place in one of the UK’s leading Holiday destination’s in North Devon. The Festival of Rugby is an exciting event that has stirred enormous interest in rugby clubs not just in the UK but through Ireland, Northern Ireland and other International destinations. With a first class host club in Barnstaple Rugby Club you are sure to enjoy your time on and off the field. Group matches will be played on the Saturday with Cup, Challenge Cup and Bowl matches on the Sunday.

Teams will be based in a number of holiday villages with John Fowler Holidays accommodation in Ilfracombe as our preferred option. There is plenty of entertainment in the Holiday Village including an indoor pool. Various accommodation sizes will be available varying from 2 berth all the way up to 12 berth including chalets, apartments and caravans. Exact details of accommodation depends on our final numbers and proximity to each other.

We have secured an early booking discount of £89 per person. This includes three night’s accommodation at the holiday park, entry to the rugby festival, entertainment pass & return coach shuttles to and from the rugby festival from the holiday village on the Saturday and Sunday. Ilfracombe is about 4 hours journey and we are proposing to hire a coach to transport us there and back. A proper rugby tour! The coach will cost approx. £30 per head return. Families are welcome to attend but unfortunately there are no discounts available for family groups.

We need firm numbers by October 5th to obtain the discount. Can you also please let us know who you want to share accommodation with?

Please contact Kay with these details by Wed 5th October if you would like to attend.

Thanks
Dan

TEAMER REPLIES

Please can everyone make sure they reply to their Teamer text or email as soon as they know they can make the game on the Sunday. This will help us to organise replacements to the squad we will be taking earlier rather than asking people to come last minute.
If you do not reply to the Teamer invite it will be assumed that you can NOT make the game and a replacement player may be notified to take the place. Thank you

South Gower HOME Sunday 25th Sept - 10.30am

We have a home game this coming Sunday against our good friends from South Gower.
We will be playing in Bishopston, this year as last year we will be on the top pitch the other side of the school. Teamer invites have been sent out based on the Matrix selection for the game further down the page.
See you all there, and see you all in the club afterwards!

Dunvant and South Gower matches

Well done all the boys against Dunvant on the weekend. There is a very brief match report online. Click the Match Report tab above to have a read.
Training again 4.30pm on Friday at Underhill as we prepare to take on our good friends, classmates and rivals from South Gower at 'home' in Bishopston. The Matrix teams are all below and the players involved will also receive a Teamer invite.

As it is a home game for us against South Gower it would be really great to see some of the boys and parents back at the club afterwards. It is something that the club is extremely keen to encourage. They have a new kitchen, and although it hasn't got a Michelin Star yet, it will provide some nice food for the boys and let them be together for a short while after the game. Hope to see you there

BRING YOUR BALLS!

Can all the boys please bring their training ball with them on Friday night
Thanks

THE MATRIX EXPLAINED...

Just to clarify the thinking behind the new Matrix to everyone...
You will see that your son will have been allocated a "position". That is to help balance the team for each match. Though it is more likely that they will be playing in that position on the day, they will be moved around to
develop their skills in other positions as well as to accommodate injuries during the game.

For instance, though there are only three "back row" players for each game, we think that at least two of the "front row" and all of the "second row" can play in the "back row" in any specific game.

We will stick to a rotation policy on the field as well. Depending on the final number for the day, it is likely that your son will have around 70% of the playing time on the pitch. Noting that wingers have the least amount of activity during a game (fewer passes, tackles, rucks etc), there are approximately 2 backs and 3 forwards replacements for each game.

At the end of the first cycle of games, we will review the matrix allocation, adjusting where necessary.

It is essential that players:
1. Don't become a one position player.
2. Experience a range of positions over the season.
3. Get as much game time as possible.
4. Want to learn new skills based on WHAT THEY HAVE DISCOVERED FROM PLAYING, not just because we have told them that it is the right skill.

MATRIX TEAMS

Dan's patented Matrix has outputted the following teams for the first five teams of the season. The combination of complex equations, years of rugby experience and drawing of straws has resulted in selections that should see equal game time for everyone.
Ongoing analysis by our team of experts will make any alterations needed to the matrix before releasing teams for the next round of fixtures...

Games are:
Dunvant (A) 18th Sept / S.Gower (H) 25th Sept / Neath (TBC) 2nd Oct.
Bonymaen (A) 9th Oct / Loughor (H) 16th Oct.

PONTARDAWE GAME

It was great to see so many of the Crusaders make the journey up-river to Pontardawe on Friday night. A fantastic turn-out, some exciting rugby on the big pitch and overall a really positive evening topped off with the customary warm welcome and sausage and chips in the clubhouse.

Keep an eye out on the blog for teams for the next five weeks which will be posted as soon as I can figure out a way of putting them up without grinding the internet to a halt.

THE MATRIX UNCOVERED

No longer just an urban myth, new evidence has come to light revealing the existence of Dan's patented u12 Rugby Matrix. This anonymously emailed picture shows Dan hard at work on the super computer needed to run such a complex system, keenly aided by the Carol Vorderman of Mumbles, Kay Midha.

The teams for the next 5 weeks have all been worked out and will be posted on the blog after the game on Friday night

PONTARDAWE - Post match food at the club

Pontardawe are kindly putting on food for all the boys at the rugby club after the game.
All are wlecome back there to enjoy their usual hospitality.

International Tickets - 6 Nations

Anyone interested in tickets for next year's six nations can buy them through the club. But time is running out. All you need to do is go to the ground floor bar in the club house, and write your name on the list pinned up on the column facing the bar (or ask Skinny where the list is). If tickets are over subscribed, there will be a lottery, however at the moment there are not many names down (France and Italy are the home matches) and there is a good chance that you will be offered tickets. Please include a contact telephone number, and indicate the team (under 12s) that you are part of.

Lists will only be there until the end of the week (because we then need to apply for our allocation) so if you want tickets go now.

JUNIOR FUN DAY

For Saturday, don't worry if your kit is too small or you havent got it yet, or even if you've lost it since last season. It would be nice if everyone had kit on, but even better that everyone just gets there - regardless of what they train in!

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!!
Especially if you have a Gazebo we can use to base ourselves from - including the 'Crossbar Challenge!'

Any help would be very much appreciated.

MUMBLES JUNIOR FUN DAY

We are taking art in the Mumbles junior Day on Saturday
The Crusaders are scheduled to show off their skills to the adoring crowd on the main pitch at 10.00am
Could we all please meet at 9.30am behind the posts (pavilion end)

All players please wear their Crusaders kit.

The day overall will raise money for the Mumbles RFC Junior section.
We will also be running a 'hit the crossbar competition' which will raise money for the Crusaders directly.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
To take money during the day, help with the stall etc.
A marquee of some kind would also be a great help - if anyone has one please let me know
email mumblescrusaders@gmail.com

Any other help/advice would be very helpful

Mumbles RFC are hosting a Junior Rugby Fun Day as part of the Cracker 7s weekend.
The Junior Day will be held all day on Saturday 27th August and the Crusaders, along with all the other junior age groups have been invited to attend.

The day will have a mix of fun stalls, BBQ, beer tent, short rugby matches and training on the main pitch, where the age groups will display their talents.

We have also been asked to run a Crusaders Stall, any money raised on this will go straight to the Crusaders kitty to be spent wisely in the future. Any ideas anyone has for an original and lucrative stall are greatly appreciated. Already had a few good ones, but keep them coming. We need to let the club know what we are doing so stalls aren't replicated.

Send any stall ideas to mumblescrusaders@gmail.com

All the boys will be playing/training (TBC) on the main pitch - more details on this together with times and arrangements to follow.

New Season training plan

PDF of the new season training plan available to view on Mumbles Crusaders online documents

Team photo 2010/2011 Season

The team shot we did last Friday is now available online on the new Mumbles Crusaders Gallery

TRAINING STARTS Friday 5th August 4.30pm

Training starts for the 2011/12 season on Friday 5th August at 4.30pm in Underhill.

There will obviously be some boys on holiday at times during the summer holidays, but with a lot of new rules involved for next season and a first game at the beginning of September it would be great to see as many there as possible.

We will also be running a 'training day' as part of the Cracker 7s tournament on the Saturday of the Cracker's weekend - more details to follow.

Plans for this weekend!

Some necessary changes in our plans for the Trecco and Tobago Tour caused by our boys being just TOO GOOD at rugby! It was fantastic to hear that the Swansea Schoolboys vanquished Bridgend and reached the DC Thomas Cup Final with so many of the squad (9!) coming from the Crusaders. There might be a few exceptions to this plan, but here is the general idea…

Friday. Everyone is meeting at Pencoed RFC. Just off the M4. 17:30. The Schoolboys will rest and support, and Mumbles will play a mixed match with Pencoed. Hotdogs then departure for Trecco and Tobago (or a more comfy bed). The Schoolboys will be looking for a realtively early night and early start on the Saturday to catch the team bus to Cardiff and the Millenium Stadium! The bus will meet those still at Trecco at Sarn Park at 10:15. All players who have been involved with the Schoolboys this season are also invited to travel on the coach and watch the game. The big match kicks off at 12:45 and is followed by a meal for the team. All supporters from the Crusaders are also welcome to come along to Cardiff and shout for the lads. We will expect the boys back at Trecco at around 5ish.

There will be considerably less sleep for the rest of the team (and their parents) but they will still need to be up on Saturday morning for LaserTag. This is very close to Trecco and we have a slot at 11:30. We have 20 places booked, and it costs £15 for 2 hours. We are expecting a few parents / sibs to want a go as well and there should be space for a full session or to tag in and out. Just make sure you have a change of clothes and old shoes, especially if the rain keeps up tomorrow. It is outdoors in the woods, and a hell of alot of fun. We will be back at Trecco about 14:00 for a relaxing afternoon.

By the evening we’ll all be back together, no doubt with lots of stories to swap, and will aim to congregate for a BBQ. I don’t know exactly how easy this will be – but bring the equipment and food you need and we’ll improvise.

Sunday morning it is another early-ish start as we need to be at nearby Llantwit Major for a match kicking off at 10:00 (because they are having a presentation day later on). After that it is back to Trecco for well earned relaxation at the pool, and a toast to another successful season and tour.

Any questions – Mike G on 07846 334 962

P.S. On arrival at Trecco don’t forget there is a £30 ‘damages’ deposit. You pay this by credit card when you check in. You get it back. Unless you burn down your caravan or something.
