Merry Christmas to everyone involved with The Crusaders. See you all in the New Year!

Christmas party info
Meet in the 360 cafe Thursday evening 6pm for a game of beach rugby with boys/dads/mums followed by some food for the boys.
The weather doesn't look too promising but there are changing facilities and showers so a change of kit and clothes is probably a good idea.
The £10 for each player pays for their food after the game also. Parents will be able to buy food/drinks from the cafe.

Junior Section Team Policy
Below is a post from the Mumbles Pirates (u12s) blog.
The sentiments and policy expressed within it are whole-heartedly supported and echoed by the Crusaders coaching team. At the bottom of the post, there is a link to a survey where you can, if you so wish, comment with your thoughts on the post and the policy contained within it.

Dear Pirates and parents
In the wake of a few recent conversations it would be helpful to touch base on match day selection policy. As background we have always given all players an equal minimum game time. This aspires to keep all the children enthusiastic about rugby and sport and give the whole squad opportunity to fulfil their potential. The WRU has increasingly recognised that selection can result in losing young children to the sport and correlates poorly with future performance, hence the disbanding of District teams below U15 last year.
Equally, given that our children are pre-growth spurt, they are encouraged to experiment with different positions and discouraged from pigeon-holing too early.
Whilst sometimes this puts the team at a disadvantage, against opponents who just play their best team, it has kept the whole squad together. This year we started the year with the same 24 players that started last year, which has not been the case for some of our contemporaries and turned away 3 more whilst they remain unfilled.
Not unreasonably many of the team did other things over the summer rather than attend our pre-season training leading a slow start into the season with many new scrum and lineout skills to learn. We have made some progress in the last few weeks which culminated in a very good team victory against Penclawdd, where all the players rightly felt that they were part of the victory. Clearly we didn't have the best week-end on Sunday, particularly against a team we beat two weeks ago. There have been lots of opinions aired as to why we had this performance and what direction the team should take from here. Without going into too much detail there were lots of small mistakes, in skills, decisions, application and tactics on the week-end, that weren't present in previous weeks, which collectively hampered our performance as a team.
Clearly with some notable exceptions we still need to ignite that 'switch-on from the kick-off focus and will to win' attitude that has eluded us.
Moving forward we need to decide if we continue to focus on teamwork, fun and developing potential, inline with WRU guidance, or focus purely on winning more matches. With the former we will have a strong happy squad for the coming years. With the latter we risk losing some of the fun and some of the players along the way.
At the end of the day the team belongs to us all collectively and input and suggestion is welcome from all, especially the boys. We would be grateful if each family could reflect on this as we go forward in the Season so we can prioritise and achieve consensus on our goals. We will be arranging a meeting in the coming weeks to discuss this. Finally any parent who would like to contribute in any capacity is most welcome in the volunteer coaching team, the necessary WRU training courses are funded by the club. The coaching team

Scrum binding and engagement
Look at the way the two teams bind up.
Both props are square but not tight.
The hooker's foot acts as break before engagement, but then drops back.
The flankers and locks work together.
The All Black flanker has a high, short bind, so his elbow is bent.
The flankers are in a normal scrum position (like that of a prop).

Shirt Numbers
We are letting the boys choose the number they want for the back of their new shirt, so if everyone could let me know what number their son wants on that would be great.
It may not be the position they ALWAYS play, but may be what they prefer playing.
If I don't get a number then you will be allocated a number by us.
Just email your preferred playing number to: mumblescrusaders@gmail.com

Lucton Coach
It is looking likely that we will be taking a coach to Lucton at a cost of £10 per seat.
Can you please let me know on Sunday at the Bonymaen game how many seats you will require for the journey. If you aren't going to Bonymaen but are travelling to Lucton by coach you can email the number of seats you want to: mumblescrusaders@gmail.com
If I havent heard anything from you by WEDNESDAY 18th APRIL I will assume that you do not require any seats on the coach. Thanks

Sunday - Bonymaen Away
We will be playing at altitude this weekend with the away game against Bonymaen rescheduled from earlier in the season. Teamer invites have been sent out, 10.30 meet in Bonymaen
Apologies for a late Teamer sent Friday, there was a problem getting the texts to send from Teamer but that should be all sorted now.
Please continue to check the blog regularly for information, as Teamer are now limiting the number of texts that can be sent out, texts will only be sent out for games. All other information will be available on the blog.

Travel to Lucton
We are traveling to Lucton for the last time on 22nd April.
The other age groups have decided to not take a coach this year, because of the costs involved, because of the long journey time by coach compared to a car and also the flexibility of people to leave/stay at the end of the day at a time that suits them.
With this in mind, we are looking at the various options for travel depending on the numbers wanting to make their own (or shared) way there and the numbers wanting to be transported to and from the event.
If you could please answer the poll on the side of the blog------------------------->
Please answer once only and we can see what numbers there
are and the best option for travel on the day. Thanks

Porthcawl Away Sunday
Our fixture away against Porthcawl this coming Sunday will now be an
11.20 am MEET! Not the 10.30 meet that went out via Teamer. Please allow yourself plenty of time to get to Porthcawl so the boys get a chance to warm up before the game, which kicks off at 12.
The Porthcawl RFC website has them situated somewhere close to a pub on South Road, but from what I can tell the on Google maps, the map below is for direction to where we will play the game further up South Road. See you all there.
Could everyone going also please reply to Teamer, at the moment we only have 12 accepted for the game. If we still only have 12 accepted as we get nearer the game we will have to cancel the fixture!

Pencoed game now at HOME!
The good news for this weekend is that the Pencoed game origainally scheduled to be played away is now being PLAYED AT HOME!
This will obviously save everyone a trip up the M4 on Sunday.
PENCOED GAME SUNDAY 1st APRIL IS NOW AT HOME!
10.30am MEET IN BISHOPSTON
With Pencoed making the long journey to Bishopston on Sunday, and after the warm welcome afforded to us by them last season, it is only right that we all make a big effort to go back to the club after the game to show some hospitality to our guests.
The club have been informed that we will be going back and are arranging catering accordingly.

Upcoming Fixtures
We have a game this weekend away against Pencoed. Because it is a little way up the motorway, we are looking to get numbers confirmed well in advance of the game.
PLEASE COULD EVERYONE REPLY TO TEAMER!!!
It really does help us to organise the game for the weekends if you can reply as soon as possible to Teamer.
At the moment (Thursday) we have SIX PEOPLE confirmed to play on Sunday against Pencoed, this is obviously not enough to play the fixture.
On the same topic, we have an away fixture against Porthcawl on 8th April.
It would be advantageous for the coaches to know well in advance who is available to play what is sure to be a tough fixture against Porthcawl.
Once again, PLEASE REPLY TO THE TEAMER TEXT AS SOON AS YOU CAN
Obvioulsy, not everyone knows availability as soon as they receive the text, but the sooner you can reply the better. So, just in case anyone missed the point of the post...
PLEASE REPLY TO TEAMER AS SOON AS YOU CAN FOR EACH FIXTURE!!!
even if the fixture seems a way off

Lucton availability for 22nd April
Please make sure you respond to the availability Teamer invite regarding the Lucton tournament in April. I know it seems a long way off, but it will be here before we know it!
We also have to register all players names a number of weeks before the event so please check your diaries and respond accordingly.
As always there are a limited number of spaces available. Tournament rules dictate we can only take a squad of 20 boys with us. This is a great day out, and this is the LAST TIME we will be playing there. Under 12s is the oldest age group represented.
The Teamer is for availability only, a squad of 20 will be chosen from the available players if more than 20 are available for the tournament.

TOUR PAYMENT DUE
Our Crusaders Tour 2012 to the distant shores of sunny Ilfracombe is fast approaching!!
So, final payments are now due...
The original price per head for the accommodation was £89 of which we have all paid £35 deposit already
leaving £54 to pay which has been dropped to £52 due to the numbers we have travelling.
We also need to pay £35 per head for the return coach travel. So, total due per head £52 + £35 = £87
(Lisa Duffy and Vicky Langford - total due per head £70 + £35 = £105 due to late booking)
Please make cheques payable to TEAM TOURS DIRECT LTD. and give to KAY by SUNDAY 19th FEBRUARY.
The money we have from fundraising will be shared out to all before we go - a boost to our spending money!!
Thank you.

Friday and Weekend
Weather permitting - we will be training at 4.15pm this Friday at Underhill.
Sunday, we travel to Swansea Uplands, meet at 10.00am meeting and playing on the pitch next to the main road, not by the clubhouse. Team will be put up soon, look out for Teamer notifications.
Lyndon is hosting a meeting at the club on Friday evening (Teamer invites have been sent) to discuss the possibility of a 'Big' tour for the boys in 2014. All are welcome, there is a presentation from a professional tour operator and plenty of points for discussion including destinations available.

DEVON TOUR INFO
Hi Everyone
We're about to book the coach for the Crusaders' tour to Ilfracombe.
Depart Mumbles RFC -- Friday May 4th around 4.30 / 5 pm.
Return on Monday 7th May .
Estimated cost £35 a head.
As this is a team tour, we would like as many of us as possible to travel on the coach , together.
It will also help to keep costs down !
With this in mind, could you please let KAY know by SUNDAY 29TH JANUARY if you are NOT travelling on the coach.
Thank you
POST MATCH AT THE CLUB
As we have a home game this weekend against Bonymaen, we are due to go back to the club after the final whistle for the players to enjoy the club catering.
This season there is a £10 subsidy due for each player at all age groups (some of you will have paid this already for other ages) to help towards the catering costs on a Sunday morning at the club.
This subsidy needs to be collected for the club ASAP, so there will be a form going out to everyone after training on Friday explaining the subsidy and asking for payment, which we can hopefully collect on Sunday.
We are also encouraging as many people back to the club as possible after our home games. As we are paying for the catering it makes sense that we use it as much as possible. It's also great for the boys to hang around together after the game, so it's not just all about the rugby and go home.
