With all the cancelled rugby we are squeezing one more event into the year. We have booked Bishopston Gym for this Sunday (19th).
We will have a fun session and a set of touch rugby games. Parents are welcome to show off their skills too.
Meet at 10:45 so we can make the most of the booking.

Tenby Cancelled
Very sorry to say we have pulled the plug on the Tenby trip. With the forecast being a very cold weekend we are pretty sure there will be a frozen pitch and a repeat of the cancellations of the last few weeks. With the added arrangements people have to make for the trip it is not worth the risk.
We hope to have a replacement event for the Sunday morning at Bishopston arranged over the next couple of days. Keep an eye here and on teamer.

Neath Cancelled
Unfortunately the Neath match tomorrow is cancelled. Although the pitches have thawed a bit, the conditions are still unplayable in Neath, and we appreciate the early decision from them.
TENBY...
Just to clarify: please let Mike know your preference for travelling to Tenby. We will try and accommodate EVERYONE (including all supporters, not just the 1) on the coach if at all possible. But we can only do this if you let us know the numbers we have to deal with. Just drop a line to Mike with your preference:

2. We will be travelling by car

After the match we will go to the clubhouse. The plan is then for the Coach to stay in Tenby until 4:00, then head home. We aim to be back by 6. The clubhouse is central, so there will be plenty of time for those on the coach to have a wander around Tenby in the afternoon.
Remember Neath this Sunday, meet Dwr Y Felin School fields. 10:00.
No more training this year!

Tenby Update Neath this Sunday
The Xmas match this year is a trip to Tenby. This will take place on Sunday 19th December. We are sending the teamer invites out early so we can get organised. We are hiring a coach, which will leave from the clubhouse at about 9 in the morning. Space on the coach is guaranteed for all players + 1 supporter. Please let us know if you want more supporter places, as there are likely to be quite a few, but we will have to allocate them on a first come first served basis when we know the number of players.
(Edit: we think that seats on the coach will be about £10 each, depending on numbers. But certainly no more than that).
Please let Mike G know if you would like a place on the coach (and how many extra supporters if possible), or if you have other travel plans (m.b.gravenor@swan.ac.uk; text 07846 334962).
This Sunday: Weather permitting we are going to Neath for the penultimate match of the year this Sunday. Updates to come later in the week.

There is a chance of a game on Sunday away at Ups. We will check the pitches on Saturday and post here and on teamer.

Training on Wednesday - Indoors
Due to the bad weather we have arranged an indoor training session this week. The best time we could get is this WEDNESDAY at Bishopston Gym for one hour between 6 and 7. Please arrive promptly so we can make the most of the booking. We will meet at the main reception at 5:45, but the training will take place in one of the smaller Gyms.
We hope the weather will improve for Friday at the Park - but we will call it off if it stays like this.

Clifton Final Plans
First up - we are keeping an eye on the weather. Obviously it will be cold, but we are in touch with the Clifton club to ensure matches are playable. So far all the reports from Clifton are that pitches are fine.
So far we have confirmed: Rhys, Cam, Keiran, Tom G, Nathan, Tom L, Harry, Aled, Brad, Ryan, Ben, Alex, Sam H, Jack, Zac, Cian.
Any travel difficulties contact Mike asap (07846 334962)
Please ensure you arrive at Clifton RFC by 10:30 at the latest. Directions to the club can be found here. Address: Station Road, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol BS10 7TT
Please wrap up the boys warm. Bring the warm up tops - but boys must play the matches in their jerseys - so plenty of T-shirts / skins underneath are ideal.

Training Friday Underhill
Training at Underhill Park Swings Friday 5 - 6
Details for Clifton below. Remember it is your own arrangements for travelling. But if anyone is stuck, there are sure to be several spaces on cars going up there, so let us know (Mike G: 07846 334962) and we can try and find a space for you.
On the road next week for a trip to Bristol. We have an invite to play at Clifton RFC. It's a bit of a trek, but a chance to get out of the usual routine for the Crusaders. A mini tour, against English opposition, and with English rules - which means no need to count the players in the rucks and mauls boys!
Clifton RFC is right on Crib's Causeway. It will take about 90 mins to drive to on a Sunday morning. We are not making special travel arrangements because there is obviously the chance of shopping at Cribs's Causeway / Bristol centre / Zoo etc if anyone wants to make a full day of it, so we are leaving it flexible. It would be great if people could arrange lift shares etc amongst themselves. If anyone is stuck for a lift please let us know.
Please aim to arrive at 10:30 at the latest. We will aim to assemble at about 10:30. And to kick off at about 11:30. We'll go back to clubhouse afterwards and be done by about 1:00. We are looking forward to a warm welcome.
Teamer invites will be sent out as soon as we know exact times. Please respond so we can let our hosts know how many are coming.
More details / directions to follow.

Matches CANCELLED
The bad news: BOTH MATCHES CANCELLED TOMORROW. For once we are not beaten by the weather. Corus have difficulties raising a team right at the moment, and Penlan have lots of players out of action. So unfortunately no rugby for the Crusaders tomorrow.
The good news: Sunday lie in for a change. Have a rest before the trip to Bristol next week.

Ponty Report
Sorry to report that one of the Ponty lads, Rhodri, broke his arm just above the wrist after a nasty fall this morning. We send all our best wishes from the Mumbles players and parents for a speedy recovery. A real shame after a fixture played in such good spirit on both sides.

Sunday 31st Oct: Pontardawe
The Crusaders will be travelling to Pontardawe this Sunday. Teamer invites have been sent out, please respond with your availability. As it is a long trip, we'll be taking a small squad to maximise game time. Here is the expected team:
Lloyd, Cian, Max, Sam Wade, Rhodri, Rhys C, Keiran, Cam, Nathan, Ben, Will, Ryan, Oliver
Meeting time is 10:30 (please check for any changes in kick off time) at Pontardawe RFC. Directions are a little tricky (players often end up in the nearby Pontardawe Leisure Centre playing fields by accident). Take the A4067 out of Swansea, straight to Pontardawe. On the first roundabout at Ponty, take the second exit (still on A4067) then at the next roundabout (A474) take the exit on the right. This is a straight road, and a dead end, that takes you directly to the playing fields. Map here, see green arrow for pitches.
Get well soon James and other stuff
James Parker goes on the latest list of arm injuries - get well soon James.
Keiran Morris is now out of plaster and it has been good to see him down at matches.
Also, it was great to see the support for the boys on Sunday in the South Gower game. We only chose a small squad to allow maximum game time.
HOWEVER, we didn't realise that some of the players were keen to play against schoolmates. The fixture card is on the right hand side of the blog. If there are any particular games coming up that are important, then please tell us.
CLIFTON - November 28th (Sunday), we are going to take a trip to Clifton for some training and a game. Clifton is just off the motorway at Cribbs Causeway beside a small shopping centre I believe. The plan is to play and then wander into that shopping centre and perhaps catch a movie. For those souls who wish to wander off into the shopping centre, then they will have a chance to do this.
TENBY - December either 18th/19th. We are going to Tenby to play, probably on a Sunday. They have 28 boys on their books, so we can play lots of rugby, then repair to Tenby to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.

Half Term coming up
First up - well done to all the boys today. A try-fest up in Cowbridge ended in a 9-9 draw, with the boys playing some superb rugby and leading throughout, only to see the strong Cowbridge side grab a draw at the death. A little closer to home the boys fought bravely against a tough Bonymaen team, eventually going down 7-3. The big home side were able establish a sizeable first half lead, but Mumbles never let their heads go down and fought back to edge the second half possession and scoring.
Coming up....
For half term, we expect a few players to be away, so will only have one match per weekend. If anyone is absent for either (or both) Sundays can they please let Mike G know asap, and we'll try our best to factor it in (m.b.gravenor@swan.ac.uk).

Best Wishes to Kieran
From all the Crusaders players and parents, we wish Kieran Morris a speedy recovery after his injury on Sunday. An ambulance was already at the ground when the accident happened, Kieran was seen quickly and taken for an operation on his arm, which was broken at the wrist. For such a nasty shock, Kieran took it all with his typical bravery, and we look forward to seeing him back to his old self in a couple of months. Thanks to all those on hand who help out with all the arrangements.

Friday 27th August. Training at Underhill 5:00.

Just to be clear, there is no formal event for the Crusaders, but everyone is welcome to go along, kick a ball around and enjoy.

Bluestone Tour
Monday, 3 May 2010
BLUESTONE - more details for Sat Night
Some more details for Bluestone. Note there is NO TRAINING THIS WEEK.
BBQ
We're hoping to have a BBQ on Saturday night at Bluestone. There's no dedicated BBQ area, but we plan to congregate around a few lodges that are close together. Please bring a disposable charcoal BBQ and any food that you would like to BBQ for your own family. If you want to cook in groups it might be fun! If anyone would like to bring a "bring and share" salad of their choice e.g. pasta salad, rice salad, tabouleh (Mike M has offered to do this - it's his favourite!) we could all dip in. (No peppers or tuna for Dan thank you).
Bring some "refreshments" of your choice for you and your children as well. Rav will bring some paper plates, forks and some serviettes so you don't need to worry about these. If it's wet we may have to change tack, but lets be optimistic!
Tour T-shirts
We've had some tour t-shirts made for the boys with their individual names on the back, and a season souvenir. After paying for the Kooga training tops, our funds are low and we hope parents won't mind paying a contribution towards these. We will hand out the T-shirts on the Friday after the match and try and collect £8 from everyone then. It would be great if all the boys could wear them on Saturday at Heatherton - it will help to round them up!
General plan for the weekend is in a post below.

Bluestone Tour
One more event left for the season. The boys' first big Tour. Here is the plan...
Friday 7th May
Meet at 5pm at Cefneithen Rugby Club (Cross Hands). Play two matches, against Cefneithen and Pontyberem kicking off at 5:30. Leave Cefneithen at 7.00 to arrive at Bluestone for 8pm. The reason for the early start is so we can get to Bluestone in a decent time, early enough for the boys to get in a swim if they want. Obviously some of us might not easily be able to get there for 5. If this is the case, let us know and we will try and arrange lifts so the players can all be there for the start of the tour.
Saturday 8th May
Leave for Heatherton at 11.30
Heatherton activities 12-3. Paintballing at Heatherton 3-5
Evening at Bluestone (Possible BBQ!!)
Sunday 9th May
Morning: play Narbeth and Whitland at Narbeth RFC.

London Welsh
A great day on Saturday, with fantastic visitors from London Welsh. LW were very grateful for the hospitality and very complimentary on the boys rugby. Sunday was a game too far, and we have taken note of that. Well done to all the boys, they took some nasty knocks, and as the day got colder and colder it was surprising that any Crusaders were left standing at the end, let alone in the good spirits that they showed. A well earned rest this Wednesday and next weekend. Details for Lucton to follow.

Weekend Plans
Don't forget Girls Night Out tonight! Cafe Valance at 8:00.

Lots of parking on the road just before you get to it. We will play all the local sides and the day will finish with presentation of medals at 3:30.
We will carry on on Wednesdays, and have the Bluestone Tour to look forward to, but this will be the last formal Sunday Morning!

Lucton FInal Plans: 7:30 Meet
Just remembered something from last year. Even though it was a lovely day, because we arrive early in the morning we found it very cold to start with, and even though it hasn't been raining the ground will be wet with dew. Some warm clothes and picnic rugs / chairs are essential for the morning.
Firstly, in case anyone didn't get the message, we can only take a small squad to the Lucton tournament, so this year we gave priority to those boys who were not able to go last time. Also, having to play under English rules there are fewer forwards than usual. The final squad for next Sunday is Max, Bradley, Zac, Josh, Sam Hyde, Keiran, Kieran, Cam, Rhys C, Matthew, Nathan, Alex, Cian.
If anyone is travelling separately, directions to the venue can be found here. Main club website for Luctonians RFC is here. Aim to meet us there at about 10:30.
Everyone else please meet the coach outside Mumbles Rugby Club at 07:30 on Sunday morning. We need to be on the road before 08:00. The cost is £20 per player plus 1 supporter. Additional supporters are welcome and can have a seat on the coach for £5. (Brothers and sisters are free). There is plenty of room on the bus but please send me a text if you are bringing a group of more than 3. Please bring the cash on the day.
We'll have a quick stop on the way for fresh air, and aim to arrive at Luctonians by 10:00, which is the latest registration time. The tournament starts at 11:00. Please bring plenty to eat and drink, and anything to keep the boys busy. Chairs and picnic rugs are very useful. If anyone has a lightweight gazebo that would be very useful too, to set up camp. Send me a txt if you can bring one.
There is a good clubhouse and BBQ all day. The tournament was very well organised last year, and finished about 4:00. We'll aim to hit the road about 5:00 and be back in Mumbles about 7:00.
Any questions please contact Mike G during the week. 07846 334 962.

Best wishes Rhys
All the Crusaders send a get well soon wish to Rhys D. During the game against Aberavon this afternoon, and after a typically strong run, Rhys fell awkwardly and injured his hand. It's not like Rhys to ever complain so the coaches knew straight away that it needed to be checked out properly. Dad Mike was quick to take Rhys off to casualty. When we have any news we will report here.
Medical Update: Rhys will be out of action and in plaster for a couple of weeks with a broken arm. We wish Rhys a speedy recovery, from all the Crusaders.
Grrls Nite Out
An early warning for a Crusaders Girls Night Out. Drinks on Friday 23rd April, meet at Cafe Valance at 7:30.
You will have your formal teamer notification for this event soon.

Easter Plan
Week 1:

Saturday: We are hosting a touring side, Sutton and Epsom. The match will take place at Underhill Park with a KO at 11:00. Please meet at Underhill at 10:30. After the match we will feed our visitors, and our boys, at the rugby club.
Sunday: Mini tournament at Gowerton for the whole squad. Meet at Gowerton at 11:00.
Week 2:
Wednesday training, Sunday match at home against Furnace and Sunday tournament at Lucton.
Lucton Tournament 18th April
The busy end of season is rapidly approaching, and we are finalising our plans for the Lucton Tournament. We will send a teamer invite out shortly, but there is a strict limit to the numbers we can take. Please let us know your availability when you get the text. To help you out, this is the plan for the day...
The cost will be roughly £20 per player. This covers most of our costs for travel and registration. Spectators travel "free" but adults have to pay an entrance fee at the ground (I think £4).
Sunday 18th April 07:45 Meet outside Mumbles Rugby Club
08:00 Depart by Coach to Luctonians RFC (near Leominster) (Nice coach with DVD and toilets!) 09:45 Arrive Lucton
11:00 Tournament Starts
16:00 Tournament Finishes
17:30 Depart Lucton
19:30 Approx. Arrive back Mumbles RFC
During the day we will play about 5 matches, against some very strong English teams. You will need to bring plenty to eat, picnic lunch etc. Although the facilities at the Tournament are excellent. There is a play area, a BBQ all day, and a bar. If someone brings a gazebo we can set up camp for the day, hopefully in the sun. Any questions, ask Mike G 07846 334962.

Up and Coming matches...
An early warning for some international fixtures. We will be hosting Sutton and Epsom on 10th April. This is a Saturday, and we'll be planning on a kick off at Underhill of around 11. We will need to plan a warm welcome with food either back at the club, or at the park with a BBQ (depending on the weather). We'll need help with this, so if there are any volunteers please let us know asap. We will repeat the event on Sat 24th when we host London Welsh. (These are under 10s fixtures only).

Match reports and BLUESTONE UPDATE
Good performances all round this morning, as the Crusaders welcomed Pontardawe at Bishopston and took on Dunvant and Bonymaen on the road. The Ponty match was played in great spirits, and despite the scoreline of 7-0, was competitive throughout. Ponty will definitely be on the fixture list for next season. At the Broadacre it was good to see Dunvant back in action. Their new side gave the boys a real scare, before the Crusaders rallied to a 1-4 win. Another match followed against Bonymaen. Cut short by the cold wind, the game ended poised nicely at 4-4.
Training Wednesday at Underhill, 4:30.
Bluestone Update: There's been a great response to the end of season tour plans, and almost everyone can make it. If anyone still hasn't booked, then please be warned that the special offer on the price runs out on Monday morning (1st March). If you haven't booked by then, the price shoots up from £149 to £499! All you need to do to book is ring Bluestone, mention Lyndon Lewis' party (best to speak to Eirion Price there, as some staff are not aware of the group booking).

Aberavon Match on Wednesday
Disappointment this morning for the Neath Squad. There must have been an East-West Climate divide this morning as conditions at Fall Bay were ideal. Happily we can satisfy everyones hunger for rugby this week with a specially arranged match at Aberavon. Instead of training on Wednesday, all the squad will be playing a match against the Green Stars. Kick off is expected to be about 5:30. Final details will be sent out later today via teamer, so everyone can make travel arrangements.
